Firm History

RUES Hotel Management & Consulting (RHM&C) was founded by Eberhardt H. Rues in Quito, Ecuador in 1976. RHM&C is a multinational diversified management and marketing consulting firm for the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Worldwide, providing consulting services with emphasis on integrated management systems - traditional and environmentally oriented - for niche markets: "Eco Tourism" and "Special Interest Tourism" on five continents in developing and industrial countries.

RHM&C designed and developed a pioneer sustainable tourism project in the Amazon region in Ecuador in 1976. It was the first environmentally oriented lodge known as the "RUES Eco Lodge Village" and also a private natural refuge on 70 hectares of land.

In 1994 RHM&C created the first "environmentally oriented referral hotel system" with the brand RUES Hotel Selection (RHS)EcoFriendly Hotels Worldwide. The system was implemented and developed in Bolivia starting with three hotels in 1994. In 1996 the group was formed with 22 member hotels.

RHS EcoFriendly Hotels Worldwide was recognized in 1998 by United Nations Environment Programme in its publication "Eco Label in the Tourism Industry"UNEP (1998). RHS EcoFriendly Hotels are featured within the 28 ecolable schemes making it the only environmentally oriented hotel group.

In 1999 RUES Marketing & Representation (RM&R) was created to establish joint ventures with two German Wholesale Tour Operators and Representation Agencies: Sareiters Reisen/ Bavaria Tours and STRELO - Active- and Nature Travel; focusing on Eco-Tourism and Destination Development and Marketing.

In 2000 RM&R launched a destination marketing project of "The Original Florida." This was to promote and market "Nature and Heritage Tourism" (Eco Tourism) and "Special Interest Tourism" of Central Florida (East, West and North) in Europe, starting with Florida?s Space Coast principal identity "Nature and Space." The first phase marketing strategy was implemented in the German speaking countries.

From 2001 to 2004 RM&R has been supporting the expansion of RHS Partner Hotels, Bed & Breakfast Inns and Service Providers in Florida, Latin America and Europe. In November 2002 RHS launched its " EcoFriendly and Educational Website" (ecofriendlyhotelsrhs.com). This site features selected environmentally oriented lodging facilities as well the guide book Eco-Hotel Management and case studies of sustainable tourism development in Latin America.

In 2004 RHS EcoFriendly Hotels celebrated its 10th Anniversary. On this occasion new educational programs were launched such as the Integrated EcoTourism Development and partnering with nature, Culture, Hotels, and Tourism

In 2005 RHIM (RUES Hotel Interim Managment) was launched.

RM&R and RHS currently have representation partners in Germany, Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, and in the United States, Florida

RHS and its divisions mission is based on the triangle system of "Conservation - Education - Sustainable Tourism Development" and the philosophy of "Visionary Planning and Civil Involvement" of all sectors - private and public - within the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. We provide marketing and consulting services for quality oriented and environmental sensitive businesses such as Hotels, Resorts, Inns, Tour Operators, Offices of Tourism and Hotel/Tourism Schools worldwide. This broad spectrum of projects allows for a stimulating cross experience of ideas and a participative planning and developmental approach is firmly rooted in our straightforward commitment to the conservation of natural and cultural resources and heritage values on the global scenario.

RHS EcoFriendly Hotels Worldwide received the International Hotel & Restaurant Association and American Express: Environmental Awards, 1996 and 1997.
